I think that what you said made a great deal of sense. However, what about this? what if you added a little information? I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your website, but what if you added a title that grabbed people's attention? I mean %BLOG_TITLE% is kinda vanilla. You could peek at Yahoo's front page and see how they create post titles to grab people to click. You might add a related video or a related pic or two to get people interested about what you've written. Just my opinion, it could bring your website a little bit more interesting.
